At Bright Dental, we consider tooth extractions to be the last resort; we do everything we can to maintain the lifespan of your natural teeth. However, sometimes when a tooth’s prognosis is too poor, a tooth cannot be saved and extraction will be necessary.
Reasons for Teeth Extraction
Teeth extractions become necessary for numerous reasons:
Severe Tooth Decay – If a tooth is suffering so much from decay and infection that a root canal treatment is not sufficient enough to resolve it, then a tooth extraction is needed.
Wisdom Teeth Removal – If wisdom teeth erupt from the gums incorrectly, or if there’s not enough space for them to grow, we may decide that you need to have the extracted to prevent future discomfort, pain, or crowding.
Overcrowding/Orthodontics– Teeth extractions are common procedures performed before a patient receives orthodontic treatment. Extracting teeth that are causing crowding problems will allow the remaining teeth to spread out, and doing so will better prepare your teeth for orthodontic treatment.
Benefits of Teeth Extractions
- Eliminates discomfort or pain caused by an affected tooth when chewing or speaking.
- Allows remaining teeth to align better with orthodontic treatment.
- Leaves room for permanent teeth to grow.
- Prevents the infection and inflammation from an affected tooth from spreading to the gums and nearby teeth.
