At Bright Dental, we believe that prevention is the most important step in maintaining the best oral health; that is why our office offers fluoride treatments for our patients.
Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps protect teeth against tooth decay and can also repair and strengthen weakened spots of your teeth that have the potential to form cavities on the surface; although fluoride cannot reverse already-formed cavities, it can reverse early demineralization and prevent new ones from forming. Fluoride can also make the enamel, the outer layer of your teeth, more resistant to acids that can cause tooth decay.
Other Sources of Fluoride
While a fluoride treatment from our office is the most direct way of receiving fluoride, you can also acquire fluoride from a variety of sources, including:
- Fluoride toothpaste
- Fluoride mouthwash
By brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, using mouthwashes that contain fluoride, and drinking water regularly, you can continue to provide your teeth with the minerals they need in between dental visits.
Benefits of Fluoride Treatments
- Fluoride strengthens your teeth against plaque and tooth decay.
- Topical fluoride applied to your teeth in our office can remain in your mouth for a long period of time by becoming part of the mouth’s saliva. It is in this way that the fluoride continuously bathes your teeth in tiny amounts.
- Fluoride can strengthen the enamel of growing, permanent teeth.
